Project Description
The surface diamond drilling program at Skouries Open Pit is designed to delineate and assess the ore distribution within the future pit shell. The program includes a minimum of 3,000 meters of inclined and vertical Wireline Diamond Core Drilling, with collar spacing ranging from 25x25m to 50x50m. All drilling activities are executed from flat, accessible sites within the open pit area, minimizing environmental impact through the use of above-ground sumps where possible.
Geotest has deployed a high-performance, CE-certified Wireline Diamond Core Drill Rig with the potential to mobilize a second unit depending on project demands. Core diameters of BQ and NQ are used to meet assaying requirements and optimize material recovery.
The operation is planned over a 12-month period.
Project Challenge
The project demands high efficiency and flexibility in both scheduling and equipment to maintain rapid rig mobilization and minimize downtime.
- Increased core recovery with minimum loses
- Minimum borehole deviation
- Full casing to competent ground formations
- Environmentally responsible water circulation setup and site planning
